Reviewed by:Rating:Surprised everyone has given this such great reviews, if those reviews are genuine. The base design if this is pretty good, but there are a couple design flaws that hamper the functionality. As you can see from the pictures, you simply plug your SATA drive into the removable SATA port, and then you slide the drive into the enclosure, insert two screws, and you're done (unfortunately it's not that easy). If the enclosure simply snapped into place like a similar Rosewill model case does this thing would rock, but instead they chose to use screws, and that's where the problems start. The screws they used for these are tiny, and I mean TINY, not much bigger than eyeglass screws. If you dropped one of these on the floor or anywhere else you'd never find it. They provide you with a tiny cheap screwdriver, simply because you'd have a REALLY hard time finding a screwdriver small enough to work with this. That means that if and when you lose or misplace the enclosed screwdriver, you're in trouble. Next problem is that the screws (at least mine) did NOT fit well at all. The screw holes in the outer case didn't line up well with the inner piece when it's put together, and the screws go in as if they're cross threading no matter what you do. Perhaps they machined the threads incorrectly, or perhaps they mismatched the screws that were supposed to be used with it, but whatever the reason the screws simply do not thread well at all and I had to repeat the process several times. Between the screw size, the required custom screwdriver, the mis-alignment problem, and the threading issues, it exposes a design flaw with the unit that could EASILY have been resolved if they had simply designed it like the Rosewill SATA case that I own. The Rosewill case doesn't use screws to attach the outer enclosure, you simply slide it on and there are notches on either side where a springy plastic piece pops into a slot. To remove it you simply press in on both sides at the same time and slide that side of the case off (there's a top and a bottom to that enclsure). It would have been much easier with this enclosure because there's no top and bottom. If they had just used that same design concept it would literally take you no more than 10 seconds to install or remove a hard drive, and you could probably do it in 5. Instead, it took a good 5 to 10 minutes of carefully threading the screws in. Thankully I have a magnetizer so the first thing I did was magnetize the included screwdriver which made it much easier. Without that this really would have been a pain.This enclosure is worth the price I suppose, but I can't recommend it due to the screw issues. It's convenient if you just want to use it for backing up or restoring data from a spare HD, but if you actually want to use it as an enclosure I'd look elsewhere. on 2009-12-01 14:26:13. Reviewed by:Rating:Having just upgraded the hard drive in my notebook computer, I needed an enclosure for the old internal drive so I could have additional portable USB storage. I didn't want a plastic case so I found this one. It took around two minutes for me to put my old hard drive into this enclosure and screw it tight. The finished product looks and works great. I have dropped from my desk while running, Not good, and it still works and is still solid as a rock. Best bang for the Buck
