The EcoSphere Small Pod is a compact alternate universe – inaccessible to us yet interacting with our world in subtle ways. The seamless glass surface contains a ecosystem composed mostly of water, with some algae, a branch, and 3–4 tiny shrimp floating about, seemingly minding their own business. These few elements, though, are entirely co-dependent and self-sustaining, requiring only a little bit of sunlight to make their circle of life roll well into the future. With energy from the sun, the algae grows and feeds the shrimp, whose waste feeds microscopic bacteria that uphold the pod’s delicate chemical balance. Left to their own devices, the shrimp live for an average of two years, but can survive longer if introduced to Frankenstein.
