The company traces its roots back to Switzerland in the late 19th century to master watchmaker Max Stuhrling, the protege of Louis Audemars of the famed Audemars Piguet. Stuhrling, despite his immense talents, was a man who eschewed luxury, and despite producing wristwatches that cost several times the average man's salary, he endeavored to manufacture timepieces that would be affordable to most. By the mid twentieth century, the Stuhrling family became engaged in other interests, but they never lost their forefather's love and respect for watchmaking.
