In 1856, 21-year-old Thomas Burberry opened a small outfitters shop in Hampshire, England. The black, white, camel & red Burberry Check quickly became a mark of quality and exclusivity. The now famous check was first introduced as a trench coat lining and trademarked in 1920. After a century and a half, Burberry still embodies the style and rich heritage of its humble origins.
